MAFC Kites U13 Vs Brighton and Hove Albion U14 — 6–3 Win

I was really looking forward to today’s game, with the top of the leaderboard at stake and a strong Brighton side who had been achieving similar results to us. We knew it would be a challenging game.

The message from the coaches today was simple: get back to our passing football, work together as a team and move the ball quickly.

Being short on numbers actually provided the players with a valuable opportunity to spend more time understanding exactly what we were asking of them. It also gave us the chance to work through their roles and responsibilities in a bit more detail.

Aside from the slow start, I thought the players were fantastic. They worked hard to understand what was being asked of them, they asked plenty of questions and, most importantly, showed real progression as the game developed. Brighton girls fought right to the end but it wasn’t enough against the mighty Kites.

• On Monday, we have a 9v9 training fixture against Aldershot Academy, which will provide another opportunity to prepare for the start of the league on Saturday.
