🔵🔥 BLUES BAG FIVE IN PRESEASON WIN! 🔥🔵

Abbey Rangers Youth 0–5 Kingsmeadow United U13’s Blues

Two games. Two wins. Eight goals scored. Two clean sheets. 🔥 The Blues continued their positive start to preseason with an impressive 5–0 victory over Abbey Rangers Youth today.

It wasn’t the easiest of starts. With a good amount of the squad together for the first time, there were understandably a few teething problems. Players were adapting to new positions, getting used to new teammates and learning each other’s movement. For the opening stages, we looked a little unsure of ourselves.

Thankfully, Ben was in top form between the sticks! 🧤🔥 A number of excellent saves kept Abbey Rangers at bay and allowed the rest of the team time to settle into the game.

Then, the switch flipped. ⚡️

The lads began to click and we started seeing the things we’ve been working on in training. Players were looking for the wings, playing for each other and building from the back. The messages from the coaches were beginning to come through on the pitch, and it was fantastic to see.

The Blues grew into the game and started to take control. Abbey Rangers tried to make things difficult physically, but our lads stood up to the challenge and continued to play football.

Then came the breakthrough… a fantastic lob over the goalkeeper! 🎯⚽️ A brilliant finish gave the Blues the lead, and from there the goals began to flow.

As the scoreline grew, the team became increasingly difficult to break down. The midfield worked hard, the defence dealt with the threats and Ben remained alert whenever called upon. Abbey Rangers still created a few chances, but the Blues did an excellent job of limiting the danger.

There was, however, an important lesson for the lads to take from the second half. As the goals started to rack up, our team play began to drift away from what had worked so well earlier in the game. We cannot become goal hungry as individuals.

Football is about the team — making the right pass, holding your position, doing your job and helping the player next to you. It doesn’t matter who scores. What matters is that we win together. 👍

That’s something we’ll continue to work on as we progress. If we want to keep developing as a team, we need to remain disciplined, stay together and continue playing our way, regardless of the scoreline.

Overall, though, this was another hugely positive performance from the Blues. Every player contributed, there were some brilliant individual performances and, most importantly, we saw further signs of this new team starting to come together.

There’s plenty still to improve, but that’s exactly what preseason is for. We’re learning, developing and building — and the signs are certainly encouraging.
