🔵 A Point Earned, Lessons Learned

Today we welcomed a team we know well from last season in Bracknell Town Whites, so we expected a competitive game.

Unfortunately, the pitch and strong wind had a major impact on the game. Under those conditions, it was never going to be a great passing game, and the surface made it difficult for either side to play attractive football. That said, we still need to take fewer touches, link up better and move the ball quicker into attacking areas. The conditions affected both teams, but we still need to find ways to play to our strengths.

We also have to be honest with ourselves. I felt we were missing some of the desire and intensity that I know these lads are capable of. At times, our standards dropped a little, when we should be setting the tempo and making the opposition play at our level.

We need to be more willing to get on the ball, attack it and win those individual battles. The conditions certainly played their part, but our attitude, intensity and standards still have to remain high.

One thing I was really pleased with was the reaction after going a goal behind. The lads battled really well and showed good character to get themselves back into the game. The introduction of Kayden into the defence was also fantastic to see, especially after his recent time out. He settled in really well and gave us another option at the back.

We had opportunities to take more from the game, but ultimately we take the point and move forward. I know this group is capable of much more, and as the squad settles, players return from illness and injury, and the lads continue to build their understanding, I genuinely believe we will become a team that is a real challenge for anyone in this division.

There are plenty of positives to take. We remain undefeated in the league and unbeaten at home. Despite the number of players currently missing through injury and illness, we continue to compete with some of the division’s top teams, which shows the potential within this group.

We take the lesson, take the point and move on.

We know we can be better, and that’s what we’ll be looking for next week as we turn our attention to the County Cup. 🔵⚽️

⭐ PLAYER OF THE MATCH – KAYDEN 🏆

What an introduction!

Kayden’s first league game for the Blues and what a performance. Absolutely superb from start to finish.

Composed, calm and working tirelessly throughout, Kayden put in a solid performance at centre-back and looked really comfortable in the role. He read the game well, competed for everything and showed great maturity.

His introduction had a massive impact on the match and on us as a team, giving everyone around him confidence and helping us settle into the game.

A fantastic return and a thoroughly deserved Player of the Match award.

🔵 PLAYER MENTION – JOSEPH

Upon reflection, I’m adding a Player Mention today, because I feel it would be unfair to overlook Joseph’s contribution.

Joseph was asked to play out of his normal position, one that he hasn’t played much before this season, and he performed really well considering the circumstances. He worked hard, adapted to the role and gave everything for the team.

Then, when moved back into his more natural position, he made a real impact, getting himself on the scoresheet with an important goal to bring us back level.

It was a really good all-round contribution and one that deserves recognition.
