League Champions! Kestrels Dig Deep to Seal Title in Tough Final Home Battle
The Kestrels sealed the league title in style today with a 5–0 victory over Bemerton Heath Harlequins in our final home game of the season.
Coming into the match, the task was clear — a win would secure the league. Despite the stakes, the message to the lads was simple: go out, enjoy your football, and show what you’re made of.
The game began with real intensity, but it quickly became a scrappy contest, with the opposition making it difficult and at times overly physical. Kestrels’ football wasn’t at its best today, but these are the types of matches where character really matters. The lads handled it brilliantly, standing strong, staying composed, and not letting it disrupt their focus.
It didn’t take long for the breakthrough to arrive, with an early goal helping to settle any nerves. From that point on, the Kestrels showed great maturity. Even without playing their usual free-flowing football, they controlled the game, worked hard for each other, and continued to create chances.
The determination and resilience paid off, with the team adding to their lead and ultimately running out convincing 5–0 winners. Sometimes you have to grind out results when it’s not pretty — and today, the lads did exactly that.
This result is a reflection of the consistency, hard work, and commitment shown by the entire squad all season. To win a league in the manner these lads have is a fantastic achievement, and every single player should be incredibly proud.
I couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved.
I would have loved to see the lads really celebrate the moment of becoming league winners today, but it felt a little muted, which was slightly surprising. I’m sure many will agree it felt a bit odd not to see that full release of excitement. That said, we’ve still got opportunities to enjoy those moments together — next weekend (with another win) and at the league presentation.
League Champions. Fully deserved 🏆🍾🎉
Player of the Match – Max
A strong all-round performance from Max today. He was key in getting us on the ball, worked tirelessly to win it back, and was always looking to play. A noticeable boost in confidence made a real difference — fully deserved Player of the Match.
