Nerve, Grit & Glory – Kestrels Punch Their Ticket to the Final! 🔵🟡⚽️
Kestrels v Eversley & California – League Cup Semi Final
A proper semi-final in every sense – tight, tense, and ultimately decided by character.
After the narrow defeat in our last meeting, there was a clear focus from the first whistle: put things right and show what this group is really about. With a couple of key absentees through injury, it wasn’t the easiest build-up, but the squad stepped up. Wishing Max and Zachary a speedy recovery – both missed today.
The game itself was a real battle. Eversley set up with a disciplined back four, making space hard to find, but the Kestrels responded well. We controlled large spells, kept them pinned in their half, and created the better chances throughout.
At the back, the defensive unit were excellent. Organised, vocal, and sharp, they executed the offside trap brilliantly time and time again. Logan led the line superbly, dominant in the air and relentless in winning the first contact, especially against their keeper’s long distribution.
Eversley did have the ball in the net, but it was correctly ruled out for offside – a big moment that kept the game level.
Despite our pressure, the breakthrough just wouldn’t come. At the break, it stayed 0-0, but there was only one side consistently asking questions.
The second half followed the same pattern. Kestrels on the front foot, probing, pressing, and pushing for that decisive moment. Credit to their goalkeeper, who produced three outstanding saves to deny us what looked like certain goals.
Defensively, we remained rock solid. A real team effort ensured our goal was rarely threatened, with everyone putting in the work off the ball.
As the clock wound down, the reality of penalties crept in. The lads kept believing, searching for that one moment—but it wasn’t to be. Full-time: 0-0.
Then came the shootout 🫣
Going second is never easy, but the boys handled it with real composure. And Henners… outstanding. Saving the first two penalties and then stepping up again to deny their fifth – a match-winning performance under pressure. The takers did the rest, cool and clinical to get us over the line.
Kestrels win on penalties and are heading to the final! 🔥

A top all-round performance showing real game intelligence. Henners took on instructions brilliantly, looking to play out from the back and keep things composed when possible. Then stepped up when it mattered most in the shootout – saving three penalties and scoring one himself. That’s big-time. Outstanding, Henners! 👏

Relentless energy and work rate from start to finish. Bobsy didn’t get beaten easily all game and showed great awareness in possession, knowing when to play out and when to support attacks. A real team performance full of effort and understanding. Brilliant work, Bobsy! 💪
